At this point, you might be wondering what the heck is cosplay.
While cosplay may not be a familiar term to the mainstream, it is a term that has been in use for the past three decades. It was a term that was coined by Japanese native, Nobuyuki Takahashi way back in 1984. He was attending the World Science Fiction Convention in Los Angeles and is said to have been so impressed by the costumed fans and the hall. It was after his report on Japanese magazine, ‘My Anime’ that the word ‘cosplay’ came to be as a contraction of the words ‘costume’ and ‘play’.
With its roots in Japan, cosplay has grown to become a worldwide convention where participants dress up and pretend to be a fictional character from a movie, a book, a video game or just as a manga (comics created in Japan) or an anime (Japanese computer or hand-drawn) character.
